Bodegas Franco-Españolas  was born in 1890 as the union between France and Spain at a peak moment in Rioja, when the French came to the region trying to replace their vineyards devastated by the phylloxera disease. Schiava is the local native red grape grown in the region for over a thousand years. This example comes from vones of 20 to 50 years of age. Gold Medal Challenge International Du Vin 2018 France. Gold Medal, Mundus Vini 2018. Cabernet Sauvignon 85%, Tempranillo 15% from 35 year old vines. Aging is done in oak barriques for around 30 months, giving a fine structure and complex aromas. Later, the wine is aged in bottle for 5 years giving a unique bouquet. The 2022 Marjosse is a blend of 75% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Malbec. Owner Pierre Lurton commented, “We have a lot of chalk and clay at Marjosse, so we never have a problem with freshness. We recently bought a small plot of Cabernet Franc, which did very well. When the Cinzano family arrived in 1973, most of the wine bottled in Montalcino was Brunello. A second denomination, “Vino Rosso dai Vigneti di Brunello,” was used locally to improve the image of the wine sold mostly in bulk formats. Count Alberto Marone Cinzano decided that it was just the right wine for drinking every day. He used to say: “it’s the young Sangiovese I drink at lunchtime.” In 1976, three years later, Col d’Orcia already represented more than half the production of “Rosso” in Montalcino. Thanks to Col d’Orcia’s efforts in 1983, Rosso di Montalcino became a D.O.C....

In Reneissance Florence, Spezieri where the blenders of spices. This wine is named after this ancient art of blending as it is composed of Sangiovese laced with another traditional Tuscan grape by the name of Ciliegiolo as well as small amounts of most of the other grape varieties grown on the Col d’Orcia estate. The Monastrell red 2021 Depaula comes from vines at 700 meters in altitude on very poor soils, and sometimes the grapes don't ripen properly; but that was not the case in 2021, when the vines had enough water to ripen all the grapes thoroughly and produced a wine with very pure varietal character. It's fresh, balsamic and herbal, with a limestone core that delivers length and freshness coupled with a juicy Mediterranean character. Really good value. The wine has an incredible 12.5% alcohol. Organic. We selected this fine rose from a lineup of 40 different labels from Provence. It ticks all the boxes for us....lifted aromatics, good acidity, full flavoured with a long, refreshing dry finish. Hard to beat. VARIETALS Grenache - 50%; Cinsault - 30%; Syrah - 20% Light pink in color, with violet shades, this wine possesses a memorable and complex aroma. The nose is complex, with aromas of red fruits and flowers. In the mouth, the citrus fruits are very present with a pleasant  freshness and length. The 2021 harvest saw the vineyards have been divided into small areas based on the degree of maturation of the grapes. The harvest calendar has been built according to the maturation of each portion, ensuring that the small fermentation vats in the cellar were full every evening. This method ensure a higher respect of the fruit, which is always picked at the moment when the grapes reach the perfect ripeness, increasing  the quality of the wines. James Suckling 90 points. Edulis Crianza is a red wine from the Rioja developed by the Altanza winery. This winery, founded in 1998, is located in the town of Fuenmayor (Rioja Alta). Edulis Crianza is made from 100% Tempranillo. The grapes come from vineyards planted at an altitude of between 380 and 500m on clay-calcareous soils and ferrous clay. For maintenance and cultivation of vineyards, non-chemical herbicides or pesticides are used. Edulis Crianza development is carried out using a conventional winemaking. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28°C and lasts 12 to 15 days....

Western Barossa shiraz from the Greenock subregion; matured in new and seasoned French and American oak. Deep crimson with purple flashes in the glass. Jam-packed with juicy blood plum and macerated summer berry fruits with hints of licorice, dark chocolate, fruitcake spices, earth, purple florals, iodine and vanillin oak.
